I could utilize circle dance just as good as the most prolific circle dancers when i wanted to, i just simply decided not to as it looks retarded and prolong rallies indefinitely(when i was deliberately using circle dance, i was casually hitting 150+ rallies as the other guy, who ever it was, could not score winner ).
However, i still can grind down most of the shots even without it almost just as múch, by simply having a sense of court geometry, reflexes and hand eye coordination.

hum, then it might be because you had changed some video settings, which perturbed the animation system ; I think I already noticed this bug or something similar a long time ago... :fear:

That day I have tried the "sun in the back" option. I have changed the option again on and off, but can't replicate the problem, sorry.

For reflection I have tried last update, some better in some stadium, but many "blink" on the high stands in others. I need to find a way to make a video to show to you.

Loving the improvements!

I appreciate 4 is meant to be more realistic, but as someone who plays on arcade controls offline, could the arcade controls be tweaked to be a little more forgiving?

I only ask because the arcade controls in 4 feel a lot closer to the simulation controls of 2013.... but for offline use I thought the 2013 arcade controls were perfect for mindless fun :)

Guest,
yes, I could tune that, as it's meant to give a really easy control.
On what AutoPos settings are you playing, though ? It should probably be on medium, not slow.

Hey, great game so far! The rallies do feel more realistic than in 2013- I'd like to think my playing of this game helps practice my real-life tennis ball tracking skills. One comment about the accelerations- the small dust clouds that pop up are really distracting for me and cause me to lose focus of the ball. Is it intended that CPU accelerations make it harder for you to track the ball? I think the clouds are too similar in size to the tennis ball, maybe if you increased the cloud sizes or added another effect it would be less distracting. Thanks

bobbyho,
the smoke means the player is getting tired and his accelerations are less good.
I'll see if I can make it different ; or at least make it moddable.

Admittedly, I play on slow AutoPos because I want as little input from AutoPos as possible.

I understand that arcade controls aren't meant to be used with slow AutoPos, but I didn't have any problem with it in 2013... in 4 it's much tougher.

Only been playing TE for just over a week. TE4 is my first purchase to the series. I have no suggestions ATM. Just wanna say the game is very fun & I wish I started playing the series much earlier. Been playing so much the last few days using an XBox 360 controller, my hands hurt.

Re: Comments about TE4 Early Version

Postby topspinbackhand » 16 Jun 2021, 12:02

So I've been playing TE4 on and off for about a year and a half now, when it still had TEM2's graphics and TE2013's menu (how times have changed :) ) and I'd like to make a few suggestions.

1) The Topspin skill is still not where I'd like it to be. Unless you are playing as a Defender style, heavy topspin shots are quite easy for the opponent to attack with shoulder height accelerations on the forehand, some of which can reach 110 mph/177 km! Balls that are short and high bouncing are essentially free points for the player attacking them. Due to the way that shoulder height accelerations are implemented, I beat players with a high topspin character by just attacking their backhand all the time and never going to their forehand, which is just far too dangerous, even if their backhand has better stats.

2) The normal strike and topspin strike are not very effective currently. I've always believed that the normal strike or topspin strike (if using high topspin skill) should be the most common strike during rallies and the acceleration a riskier shot that can finish a point or put the opponent under serious pressure. Currently though, accelerations are not much less consistent and precise than normal strikes and hit a lot harder, making them the obvious choice for the majority of shots. Since normal strikes are quite slow, they are usually easy to pick off with accelerations. Topspin strikes have the same problems as normal strikes, but with the added problem of shoulder height accelerations that I mentioned in point 1. I don't believe that accelerations should be "nerfed", as rallies are long enough as it is and defensive players would become too strong, but the normal and topspin strikes should be more useful.

3) Players who play far behind the baseline should face penalties on their shot depth and speed. I've noticed the AI standing way behind the baseline and still regularly hitting deep hard shots. I can also do this to an extent too.

4) When serve/volleying, I still see my character often hitting groundstrokes when trying to volley a low shot, rather than a low or half volley. This almost always leads to an error. I'm pretty sure this is a bug, especially since you've added those nice half/low-volley animations.

Otherwise, great job Manu. It's impressive to see what a dedicated person can do on a budget. Even in its alpha state TE4 is far better than any big budget tennis game released in the last decade. Keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to the programmable AI and tournament mode when that arrives.
